Cataract

Placeholder Picture

Cataracts happen when protein builds up in the lens of your eye, making it cloudy. This prevents light from passing clearly through the lens, causing some loss of vision. New lens cells form on the outside of the lens, and the older cells are compacted into the center of the lens, forming the cataract.
Most cataracts are due to age-related changes in the lens. However, other factors can contribute to their development including: Diabetes mellitus—Persons with diabetes are at higher risk for cataracts. Drugs—Certain medications have been found to be associated with the development of a cataract.
